Guidelines issued on low blood glucose disorders
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted April 20, 2009
Adults should be diagnosed as hypoglycemic if they have low blood glucose and if any related symptoms resolve when levels are raised, according to Endocrine Society guidelines published in the March Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
For patients without diabetes, physicians should consider what medications, hormone problems or other illnesses could be causing low blood glucose. For those being treated for diabetes, physicians should attempt to reduce the risks of hypoglycemia while continuing to pursue intensive therapy.
