Dr. Price takes over ranking House health subcommittee seat
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 13, 2009
Rep. Tom Price, MD (Ga.), was named the top Republican on a House Education and Labor health subcommittee on June 30 by Rep. John Kline (R, Minn.).
Dr. Price takes the place of Kline, whom fellow Republicans elected to the top GOP slot on the full House Education and Labor Committee in mid-June. Dr. Price -- first elected to Congress in 2004 -- said he is eager to contribute to the debate on health system reform through his new position on the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions subcommittee, which oversees how health care affects American workers.
"Preserving the ability of American patients to access the health care options, doctors, and plans they currently enjoy is imperative to positive reform," Dr. Price said. He opposes including a public health insurance option as part of national health system reform, a provision that President Obama and many Democrats support.
