Medicare anti-fraud team ensnares more physicians
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Aug. 10, 2009
The federal government's Health Care Fraud Prevention & Enforcement Action Team expanded its efforts into Houston with indictments against 32 people -- including some physicians -- for a total of $16 million in alleged Medicare false billings, the Dept. of Justice said July 29.
The case is the latest result of a recent upswing in action by the government's Medicare Fraud Strike Force, a joint enforcement effort between the Justice Dept. and the Dept. of Health and Human Services aimed at reducing and preventing Medicare and Medicaid fraud.
