Blues settlement disbursements sent to physicians
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Aug. 10, 2009
Checks were mailed in July to doctors participating in a $130 million class-action settlement with BlueCross BlueShield plans nationwide. The agreement between the nation's doctors and more than 30 Blues subsidiaries over alleged improper payment tactics was finalized in June. Doctors who filed timely claims can expect to receive their reimbursement checks by mid-August.
Physicians who say a Blues plan has not adhered to the agreement to change business practices can file a complaint with the help of the compliance dispute facilitator, one of the 27 state medical societies that signed on to the deal or the American Medical Association (link). Claims information as well as compliance dispute forms and settlement information also are available online (link).
