Dell acquires Perot Systems
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Oct. 5, 2009
Dell, the largest U.S. computer maker, announced Sept. 21 its plans to acquire Perot Systems, a global information technology service provider, in a deal valued at $3.9 billion. The deal is expected to position Dell as a major player in the health IT field.
Dell has been establishing a foothold in the health IT industry in recent years by providing the hardware on which many software packages run. It partnered with eClinicalWorks earlier this year to provide a bundled electronic medical record package to Sam's Club shoppers.
Under terms of the acquisition agreement, Dell will pay Perot $30 per share in cash. Over the past four quarters, both companies posted a combined $16 billion in revenue.
