Verizon launches telehealth services
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Dec. 14, 2009
Verizon has announced the launch of a new telehealth service, in partnership with Cisco.
The companies started collaborating in 2006 on telepresence issues, technology that allows remote face-to-face meetings. But this is the first product to launch in the telemedicine sphere. Verizon's Telehealth Collaboration Services will use telepresence technology developed by Cisco that will be delivered over Verizon's communications network. The two have previously launched products for use in other industries.
In addition to remote monitoring and exams, the technology will allow physicians to communicate with colleagues for remote consults and collaboration. The service will also provide continuing medical education opportunities, such as remote access to training seminars or Web-based learning programs.
