Six more states awarded EMR money
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Dec. 28, 2009
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced Dec. 9 that six additional states had received federal matching funds for electronic medical records incentive programs.
The six are the Medicaid programs for California ($2.48 million), Georgia ($3.17 million), Idaho ($142,000), Montana ($239,000), New York ($5.91 million) and Texas ($3.86 million). In addition, the Virgin Islands Medicaid program received $232,000 in federal matching funds.
The funding will go toward determining how well-prepared the states are to disperse EMR incentives under the most recent economic stimulus package, as well as how many physicians might be eligible for the bonuses. CMS on Nov. 23 announced that Iowa's Medicaid program was the first to receive federal matching funds for EMR incentives. The state was awarded $1.16 million.
