Aetna, WellPoint move forward with CORE project
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Jan. 11, 2010
Two of the largest health plans in the country have moved ahead in an effort to give physicians and hospitals access to patients' insurance information quickly and accurately in a single system.
Aetna and WellPoint, who together insure nearly 53 million people, have achieved Phase II certification for CORE, the Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange, a project of the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare.
Phase II certification requires improved physician and hospital access to claims status information along with a "richer set of consistent and accurate electronic administrative data, such as eligibility, benefits and patient financial information," according to a news release from CAQH.
Aetna and WellPoint are the first national health plans to achieve Phase II certification.
