4 more state Medicaid programs receive EMR funds
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Feb. 1, 2010
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced Jan. 21 that four additional states have received federal matching funds for electronic medical records incentive programs.
The four are: Alaska ($900,000), Kentucky ($2.60 million), South Carolina ($1.48 million) and Wisconsin ($1.37 million).
The states will use the funding for planning efforts, including comprehensive analyses to determine the current status of health information technology activities. As part of the process, the Medicaid programs will gather information on such issues as existing barriers to EMR use, physician eligibility for incentive payments and the creation of long-term health IT plans.
Several other states already have received federal matching funds for EMR incentive programs in recent months, including California, Georgia, Iowa and New York.
