Kentucky doctors donate Blues settlement money to charity
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Feb. 1, 2010
Physicians aren't the only ones who benefited from a recent settlement with the nation's Blues plans. In January, a group of Kentucky doctors donated some of the money to charity.
Of the $100,000 that Greater Louisville Medical Society physician members received under the 2007 settlement, $30,000 was donated to the medical society's foundation -- which supports indigent care, medical missions and scholarships -- and The Healing Place -- a drug addiction treatment center in Louisville.
The money came from a $128 million class-action settlement by the BlueCross BlueShield Assn. and dozens of Blues subsidiaries over alleged abusive payment practices.
The health plans have denied any wrongdoing.
