Details sought on White House health reform meetings
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted March 1, 2010
Three members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Feb. 17 sent letters to White House Counsel Robert Bauer and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, requesting more information on a series of meetings between the White House and health industry stakeholders.
Committee Chair Henry Waxman (D, Calif.), ranking Republican Joe Barton (Texas) and Rep. Michael Burgess, MD (R, Texas), asked for the names of all individuals, groups, associations or companies that participated in the meetings.
The events helped produce pledges by six organizations -- including the American Medical Association-- to reduce the growth in health spending by up to $2 trillion over a decade.
