NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted April 5, 2010
With the latest round of grant awards from the Dept. of Health and Human Services, all 50 states and eligible territories now have received stimulus funds for health information exchange initiatives.
The latest round of grants, on March 15, totaled $162 million, and included 16 states and qualified state-designated entities. HHS awarded $385 million to 40 states and state-designated entities in February. The grants were funded by the 2009 economic stimulus package and were part of the $2 billion allocated to achieve widespread meaningful use of health information technology.
The last round of grants completes the government's awarding of cooperative agreements for state health information exchanges.
