Highmark opens 4 new retail locations
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted April 19, 2010
Citing successes at its first two storefronts in Western Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh-based Highmark announced plans to open four new retail locations where individuals will be able to buy health insurance directly.
Three of the new stores will be in and around Pittsburgh. The fourth will be in Harrisburg, Pa.
According to Highmark, its first two stores, one in Pittsburgh and the other in Mechanicsburg, Pa., attracted more than 20,000 visitors during their first year. The company claimed to have sold insurance to thousands of those who visited the stores.
Highmark also will sell dental coverage at the new stores. Profits from dental and vision plans were responsible in part for a rise in net income for the insurer in 2009.
