PHRs should be certified, standards group says
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted April 26, 2010
The standards organization Health Level Seven recently sent a letter to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology requesting that the office create a certification process for personal health records and their interoperability with electronic medical records.
In addition to PHR certification, the organization is requesting that the interoperability of EMRs across the continuity of care be certified. The organization also is recommending that tools be used to automate health IT certification testing.
The letter was sent in response to ONC's proposed rules regarding certification requirements for electronic medical records.
