Pa. disruptive behaviors delay care, increase risk of infection
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 28, 2010
There were 177 disruptive behavior incidents reported to the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority from May 2007 to October 2009, according to a June 16 advisory issued by the state agency.
Forty-one percent of the incidents involved conflicts among health care professionals. The disruptions, most often reported in operating rooms and medical-surgical units, may have contributed to delays in pain control and increased risk of infection and burns, the agency said.
