Medical schools key to improving patient safety
Posted Sept. 20, 2010
Medical schools and health systems must partner to make lasting improvements in patient safety, according to an article in the September issue of Health Affairs co-written by Darrell G. Kirch, MD, president and CEO of the Assn. of American Medical Colleges.
Five key factors to instituting change are leadership from the top, student involvement, a focus on safety during residency training, health information technology and teamwork among health professionals. "When combined with a growing investment in comparative effectiveness research, these factors will help physicians improve care at the bedside," according to the article (link).
