Oregon DMV to ask drivers about organ donation
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 27, 2011
Starting in January 2012, Oregonians applying for a driver's licenses will be asked if they want to register as organ donors under a bill signed into law this spring (link).
The designation means the person's name will be entered in a state database for organ donors. Millions of Oregonians are registered as donors. However, more than 30% do not renew their status as donors when they renew their driver's licenses, leading advocates of the new law to believe that state employees were not always asking applicants about organ donation.
