New ONC initiative aims to secure mobile devices
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Feb. 6, 2012
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has launched an initiative to develop best practices for mobile device use by health care professionals.
The Privacy & Security Mobile Device project will build on HIPAA laws to help physicians and health care organizations better protect patient data when using mobile devices. The department said advice for best practices will be "communicated in plain, practical, and easy-to-understand language for health care providers, professionals and other entities."
The Dept. of Health and Human Services said it will be looking for public input on this initiative and plans to hold a roundtable in the spring.
