Joint Commission launches infection-control portal
Posted April 23, 2012
Physicians working in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and other facilities that are under pressure to prevent infections have a new resource to rely on when implementing quality improvement initiatives.
The Joint Commission in April unveiled a website with links to comprehensive information on preventing central-line associated bloodstream infections, surgical site infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, catheter-associated urinary tract infections and multidrug-resistant organisms. Information on improving influenza vaccination and hand hygiene compliance also is available on the site (link).
The commission’s Web portal links to information about tested strategies in each of these areas and documents the standards and requirements that apply in each health setting.
