U.S. Olympic Committee adopts EHR
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 18, 2012
The medical care of American Olympics athletes will be managed electronically for the first time during the upcoming summer games.
The United States Olympic Committee announced that the medical care of more than 700 athletes participating in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in July, as well as 3,000 other records maintained by USOC staff, will be managed with an integrated electronic health record system. The USOC said GE’s Centricity Practice Solution will replace pallets of paper records that traditionally were shipped to the Olympic games.
Physicians will be able to access the athletes’ records at any training facility as well as when they are competing around the world, including at the Olympic Games. USOC officials said this access will allow the athletes’ physicians to deliver more targeted care in a timely fashion.
