Health organizations express need for clinical decision support tools
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Aug. 13, 2012
Health leaders will be prioritizing the implementation of clinical decision support tools in the next year, according to a survey conducted by Black Book Rankings.
The survey involved 1,340 clinical and information technology leaders from physician practices, hospitals, accountable care organizations and pharmaceutical manufacturers. It found that 84% of the health care organizations that do not have a clinical decision support system plan to acquire at least one such tool within 12 months. The survey was conducted during the second quarter of 2012.
Eighty-seven developing accountable care organizations participated in the survey, and all confirmed a need for evidence-based clinical decision support tools. According to Black Book Rankings, only 16% of U.S. hospitals have the clinical decision support tools to manage the data needs of evolving ACOs.
