Purchases of hospital information technology set to grow
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Oct. 1, 2012
As health care organizations prepare for the second stage of the meaningful use incentive program, adoption of health information exchange technology is expected to accelerate in the next two years, according to a report by the health information technology research firm CapSite.
CapSite surveyed representatives from more than 370 U.S. hospitals and found that 71% plan to purchase new information exchange technology. Twenty-five percent said they plan to make a purchase within seven months to a year.
The report, “2012 U.S. Health Information Exchange Study,” also found that 50% have joined a private, state or regional health information exchange, up from one-third that said they had joined an HIE in last year’s survey.
