Physician offices safer than other health care venues

Medical practices had an overall occupational injury and illness rate of 30.5 per 10,000 full-time employees in 2011, making these workplaces less hazardous for staffers than other health care settings, according to data released Nov. 8 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Medical and diagnostic laboratories had an overall rate of 43.1 injuries and illnesses per 10,000 full-time employees, and hospitals had a rate of 157.5.
The numbers include all nonfatal injuries and illnesses that lead to days missed from work. Comparable data for prior years are not available.
A trip or a slip was the most common occupational injury, leading medical practice personnel to miss days from work in 2011. The rate of falls, slips and trips was 13.5 per 10,000 workers.
