"Award winners ... are a testament to the important role public officials play in creating and implementing health policy that benefits Americans," AMA President William G. Plested III, MD, said in a statement.
The awards recognize the highest public service standards and are among the most prestigious honors for government service that advances public health, AMA officials said.
ABC's chief Washington correspondent, George Stephanopoulos, presented the awards Feb. 13 during the AMA National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C.
