Two-thirds of medical school department chairs have some form of personal relationship with a pharmaceutical or medical device company.
A recent study of the types of industry compensation that 489 department chairs said they received in 2006 found that one in four was compensated for participation in meetings or events, and one in five for speaking engagements.
