We've expanded the ways you can interact with us
■ American Medical News has beefed-up our online presence, with an entry into social media.
Posted Oct. 19, 2009.
For many years, the Letters column in our print edition was, in practical terms, the only place where our readers could recommend or comment on the content of American Medical News to a wide audience. Those letters -- indeed, all the content of this publication -- were captives of how this newspaper -- emphasis on paper -- was delivered.
The Internet changed that. We've been online for 14 years. At the beginning, we aspired only to put our print content online. We still do that. But now we also present a wealth of Web-only content with new postings throughout the week.
Yet that is only one side of our relationship with readers. The recent surge in social media is rewriting the dynamic of how online readers receive and relate to this publication. Quickly and with little effort, readers here, at amednews.com, can share our content, and their views about it, with their own online audiences.
It is participation we welcome and which we are facilitating through our own use of social media. Our posted articles include "share" tools for more than a dozen sites, including Delicious, Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit. Plus you can find and engage with us on Twitter (link).
More recently, we've launched an active presence on Facebook (link).
You can also send us a letter to the editor online (link).
And for those readers who prefer pen and paper, your correspondence is always welcome.
