CMS awards grant for cloud-based decision support system
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Dec. 31, 2012
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded more than $16 million to three health care organizations to study how cloud-based clinical decision support tools could improve critical care for Medicare beneficiaries in hospital intensive care units.
Mayo Clinic, Phillips Research North America and the U.S. Critical Illness and Injury Trials Group will work together to build a cloud-based system based on technology developed by Mayo Clinic. Over three years, project organizers will train 1,440 ICU clinicians in four hospital systems to use the technology effectively. CMS estimates that using the system will save more than $80 million.
