EHRs not ready for quality reporting, hospital groups say
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Feb. 18, 2013
Electronic health record systems being used by hospitals are not yet capable of submitting clinical quality measure reports as required by the federal Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program.
This is according to the American Hospital Assn. and Federation of American Hospitals, which sent letters to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. CMS published a Federal Register notice in December 2010 seeking public comment on hospitals’ readiness to submit clinical quality measures. It said it wanted hospitals to be able to use the same certified EHR systems to attest for the meaningful use incentive programs and submit quality reports.
