UnitedHealthcare app takes top honors at tech conference
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted March 25, 2013
UnitedHealthcare received an Appy Award in March at the South by Southwest conference for its Health4Me mobile app.
The app allows UnitedHealthcare users around-the-clock access to registered nurses and personal health benefits information. It also helps them find nearby physicians, hospitals and other medical facilities in the UnitedHealthcare network by using the smartphone’s GPS. One of the app’s features lets users select questions for callbacks from customer service representatives.
The app, launched in February 2012, has access to a cost estimator that allows users to shop for common treatments based on quality and cost. The estimates are personalized to the patients and their health plans. They are based on contracted rates with physicians.
“Health4Me makes navigating health care easier for our plan participants and puts key information, including health and wellness tools, right in the palms of their hands,” said Jeff Alter, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Employer and Individual business. “We are grateful to receive this Appy Award. It reaffirms the value and usefulness of the Health4Me app as a tool to help people lead healthier lives.”
