New online portal for residents focuses on safety, quality care
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Sept. 2, 2013
To help medical residents cope with health care system changes and new requirements for clinical competency, the Committee of Interns and Residents on Aug. 21 launched a website that gives doctors-in-training the information and tools they need to deliver the most cost-effective and safe care possible.
The website, QIGateway.org, is designed to be a one-stop shopping portal with resources to improve care, reduce medical errors and exchange best practices around quality improvement activities, the committee said. It is open to committee members and other residents (link).
The site was launched amid increasing pressure on teaching hospitals to improve how they teach patient safety and quality improvement to residents, the committee said.
By 2015, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education will require that all residents demonstrate clinical competencies related to quality improvement and patient safety.
